OUR HERITAGE

Caffe Verdi (or The 'Verdi' as it's known by our regulars), was first established in 1995 as an Italian Café Bar, and enjoyed a loyal following by a number of regular patrons. However, after more than a decade's good service, the venue was in obvious need of a facelift and new owner, Nicola Gross was just the person to provide one. After a lengthy consultation process with the local council and Heritage Society, work finally commenced at the end of 2009 and the result is the revamped and revitalised 'Verdi' that is fast developing a reputation as the place to be in Wynberg. But don't take our word for it. Come in and see for yourself why visitors to Caffe Verdi quickly become regulars.

OUR STAFF

While Caffe Verdi offers great food in a great, English Pub-style atmosphere, the Verdi experience is really all about the people - starting with our friendly, efficient and dedicated staff. And when it comes to having a passion for creating the perfect Verdi experience, there are none more passionate than Owner, Nicola Gross and General Manager, Craig Dean:

NICOLA

Nicola Gross

Born in Cape Town in 1976, Nicola moved to Canada with her parents when she was 10 years old. Despite attending high school in the UK, University in New Orleans in the US, and establishing a career in business that eventually took her to France, Nicola was always in touch with her Cape Town roots. So when the desire to raise her three children, Alexander, Christian and Lucia in the country of her birth, became too strong to resist, she returned to the Cape in 2006, and immediately set about looking for a premises to live out her passion for food and people.

Craig Dean

A born and bred Capetonian, Craig has been with the Caffe Verdi team since it first opened in 1995 under its previous owners - making him the ultimate Verdi 'regular'. An avid sportsman, and total peoples person, Craig has the ability to make everyone feel instantly welcome and at home, while his ability to run a tight ship means a visit to Caffe Verdi is always a memorable experience - for all the right reasons.
